Wall Street Journal: Obama: Romney Would Cut Education to Help Rich

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. — President Barack Obama assailed rival Mitt Romney’s views on education, saying he would cut funding needed to keep classes small and teachers in the classroom and would shortchange the next generation to provide tax cuts for the rich.

It was the second day in a row that Mr. Obama spent talking about education, this time focusing his remarks on elementary and secondary schools. In Columbus, Ohio, on Tuesday, he spoke about higher education.

In Nevada, he faulted Mr. Romney and Republicans in general for failing to support his effort to channel more federal aid to states aimed at helping them avoid layoffs of teachers and other public employees.
